Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA)

Form W-7, Application for Individual Taxpayer
Identification Number (ITIN)

In a continuing effort to offer our clients, and referring professionals, a comprehensive solution for all of your international tax compliance needs, Lancaster & Reed has entered into an agreement with the IRS as of October 28th, 2014 to become a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA).  As a Certifying Acceptance Agent we can certify a client’s passport or other original identification documents so that there is no longer a need to risk sending in original documents to the IRS thus simplifying and expediting the process. We offer complete ITIN services to include the preparation of the following forms:

  • •Form W-7, Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number
•Form W-7, (COA), Certificate of Accuracy for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number
•Certified Copy of Passport (or other IRS acceptable identity documents)

Not only will we complete the forms for you, or for your client, if so desired we will courier them to the IRS with a power of attorney (POA) and monitor the status with the IRS until the ITIN is ultimately issued. The IRS is very strict with the issuance of ITINs so typically these applications must accompany a tax return and may be rejected if not properly completed or certified. ITINs are only available to those foreign nationals that are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number and do not qualify for a Social Security number. Typically ITIN assistance is required in cases where the client is filing his or her first U.S. returns and in the case of the sale of U.S. real property subject to FIRPTA withholding. Lancaster & Reed can also assist with the preparation and filing of these income tax returns as well as Forms 8288 & 8288-B as relate to the sale of U.S. real property.
